Grief affects everyone differently. At Aidan Gaunt Funeral Directors, we believe in supporting not only the practical aspects of arranging a funeral, but also the emotional wellbeing of those affected. Taking care of your mental health after the loss of a loved one is vital, and it's okay to seek help.

Understanding Grief

Grief is a natural response to loss, and it often comes in waves. You may feel sadness, anger, guilt, confusion, or all of these at once. These emotions can change day by day, and there’s no “right” way to grieve.

Signs You Might Need Support

  • Persistent low mood or anxiety

  • Difficulty sleeping or eating

  • Withdrawing from others

  • Trouble coping with daily life

If you're struggling to cope, it’s important to know that help is available.

Ways to Support Your Mental Health

  1. Talk to Someone

Sharing your feelings with a trusted friend, family member, or professional counsellor can be incredibly healing. Reaching out for support isn’t a sign of weakness, it’s a sign of strength and self-awareness, and often one of the most important parts of coming to terms with grief

  1. Give Yourself Time

Grief doesn’t follow a schedule. Allow yourself space to process your emotions without pressure. While we can’t control what we feel, we can learn how to understand and respond to those emotions in a healthy way, and in time, that process becomes more manageable

  1. Keep Routines Where Possible

Simple routines, eating regular meals, going for a walk, or spending time with others, can provide some stability.

  1. Use Local Support Services

Glossop and Tameside have several bereavement support groups and mental health resources. We can help connect you with them. Reach out now.

  1. Be Kind to Yourself

There’s no ‘normal’ when it comes to grief. It’s perfectly okay to have both good days and difficult ones. Sometimes, the kindest thing you can do for yourself is to simply listen to what your body and mind need, whether that’s staying in bed all day, watching comforting films, or eating your favourite ice cream. Allow yourself those moments without guilt.

Our Commitment to Care

At Aidan Gaunt Funerals, we’re here not just for the funeral day, but before and after, too. As a local, family-run funeral director, we take the time to truly support the families we serve across Glossop and Tameside.
